THE HERO'S JOURNEY COURSE
"A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man."
-Professor Joseph Campbell
The course is divided into 14 individual lessons. Each lesson will be held weekly; the duration of each study will be one hour. Each participant must make a sincere commitment to participate in all classes. The course's participation is linked to personal responsibility. There is no obligation to attend the classes, but maintaining promises and obligations is part of the Hero's Journey.
The course will expand and deepen the single-day Hero's journey. The participants will explore the relationships between the internal and external world and the connection with magical elements of fairy tales. Together we will extract and understand psychological processes, strategies and practices to improve our Life.
Our ancestors observed the world and understood its essence. They transmitted their profound wisdom to all generations since the dawn of time. The ancient's fundamental message never changes. It contains essential elements to understand, integrate, and transform our lives.
Plato (philosopher) called "ideas" the intrinsic message contained in the stories. Carl Jung (psychologist) describes fairy tales and myths as archetypes (visual images include a dynamic representation of ancient life patterns). Lately, Professor Joseph Campbell developed the Hero's journey, which "is an archetypal narrative structure found in stories from cultures all over the world".
These are templates of stories involving the Hero facing the adventure, overcoming adversity, and returning to ordinary Life more potent than before. Jordan Peterson, for example, explains the adventures of Pinocchio. The story is an initiation: a wooden puppet, a symbol of the mechanical nature of the person, moved by forces that he does not understand, aspires to rediscover himself. Geppetto, the carpenter, is the divine father who creates the son. Watching Pinocchio, he hopes that he will become a good child. The carpenter establishes a relationship with the transcendent by looking at the stars above. The blue fairy symbolizes the divine to whom he asks for help. The presence of the talking cricket is the representation of an immature yet consciousness. Pinocchio faces pitfalls created by the cat and the fox; then the fire eater's desire to exploit it; then the coachman who wants to enslave him caused by himself. Finally, he ends up in the belly of the while. Pinocchio life is suffering, and significant change can occur only by facing Life's difficulties. The story ends with his transformation into a real child. An authentic being capable of thinking and acting independently.
The Hero's journey course will empower the participants to discover themselves, overcome disharmonic forces, and conquer independence through practical tools. The course will allow the participants to investigate group and individual reflections, feelings, emotions, and thoughts.
